Hate Speech Monitoring
Hate speech is defined as any form of expression that spreads, incites, promotes or justifies hatred based on intolerance and is widely accepted as a precursor to actual atrocity crimes. In Turkey, several social groups are frequently subjected to hateful rhetoric, including Kurds, migrants and Christians. In recent years, however, it is the faith-based Gülen movement that has been the target of the most intensive, widespread and systematic campaign of hate speech the country has ever seen in its history. Our Hate Speech Monitoring Project is designed to document incidents of hate speech against the group in an effort to counter its dehumanization by raising awareness.
